DanP
1975 - 2025
Friends, I am beyond sad to report that DanP has passed. He ultimately lost his battle with mental health in July.
Dan was a good friend; I have fond memories of staying with him - despite a rat infestation - in his apartment when he was just starting out in New York. It wasn’t particularly convenient for him to host me, but he made it work in his tiny abode and he was too generous with his time, bringing me along to various social engagements for the week I was in town. Going even farther back, around college graduation time, Dan was dubbed, “The Fireman”, for his ability to show up for a hoops or card games on short notice. Need a fourth? Call DanP. And Dan didn’t just show up; he came with his unique dry wit and a good natured, but competitive mindset that was always welcome. We saw some of that here in the tennis draft as well as he leaned in heavily to the “unite the magni” strategy; he also had what remains one of my favorite appearances of all time with, “DanP_SecretStrategy” at the 2000 US Open. That same spirit was present, if maybe a little subdued, when he joined a gaming session with old friends in LA this past holiday season. As we parted that evening, a number of us talked about how nice it was to get together like this and that we looked forward to doing it again the following year…It is hard to fathom that DanP won’t be a part of those get-togethers in the future; he will be missed, but also remembered. Rest in peace, my friend.

The Rules:- You cannot get a player for free.
- Bids must be in increments of 10 cents.
- You can never bid on more than 10 players at one time.
- You may draft as many as 10 players all of whom add to the total wins by your team.
- Each match win by one of your players is worth 1 point and your total is the sum of all the points earned by your players.
- A player's appearence in the bidding list does not guarantee the player will play in the tournament.
- If you and one or more other 'coaches' have the same number of total wins, the tie is broken in favor of the team with the player(s) that advanced the farthest in the tournament. E.g., having the champion on your team means you win all tiebreakers. See Breaking Ties for a more detailed explanation.
- An overbid on a player valued at $1.00 or more who is within a minute of being sold will result in one minute of time being added to all players with active bids. This is colloquially known as "The Anti 4:58 Rule".
- If you add a player who is already in the list; for example, using different hyphenation, with a misspelling or otherwise erroneously the preferred course of action is you lose the amount you bid on that player and the erroneous entry is removed from the list. However, if someone else overbids you on that erroneously added player before he/she has been removed from the list, you get your money back and the forfeited money now comes from the overbidder. This is colloquially known as "The Galan Rule".
- If you have 2 players with same name who are in the draw on your team that is worth 0.5 point bonus. 3 players is 1.0 points and 4 or more players is 1.5 points. This is colloquially known as "Uniting the Magni".
- Some players are marked as Out. These players are believed to be out of the tournament. This list is not comprehensive. There are likely some players who will withdraw that will not show up as Out in our list.
Timing (PDT):- From Mon, Aug 18 at 12:0:0 PDT to Fri, Aug 22 at 17:0:0 PDT, if you accrue 36 hours as the high bidder on a given player that player is sold to you.
- From Fri, Aug 22 at 17:0:0 PDT to Fri, Aug 22 at 23:0:0 PDT, if you accrue 5 minutes as the high bidder on a given player that player is sold to you. This is called, 'The Lightning Round' (LR). Please note all accural times are reset for the LR.
- As of Fri, Aug 22 at 23:0:0 PDT, all remaining players who have been bid on will be awarded to the current highest bidder.
