Any profile of Sylvia's game must begin with her triumph at the AHA Grand Slam on November 2, 1996. Showing perseverance and quality play, she emerged from a field of 24 competitors to stand alone as the champion.

"Competitor" may be the key word where Sylvia is concerned. Any time you have Sylvia at your table, you know you are going to get lots of effort from that chair. By the same token, if shooting the moon is called for to win the game, she is capable of making it happen. If a minus five is in order, she will give that a run as well. In short, she has a diverse and highly successful game that can sneak up and snatch a victory in any foursome.

If there is one weakness to the AHA champion, it might be her starts. Sometimes she has been known to get a few wakeup calls in the form of the queen before really settling in and it can be hard to recover from the big early deficit.
